Model 3 SR Speaker Activation

Audio

With this wire harness, you can activate up to 6 inactive speakers on Model 3 SR (2019-2020), Model 3 SR+ (2019-2021), Model 3 RWD (2022+).

The work is done by connecting the front dash speakers parallel with the tweeter and A-pillar speakers to feed the signal for the speakers, and connecting the rear door speakers in parallel with the rear shelf speakers.

———-

For Model 3 built after 2020-03 (USA and China):
Rear-shelf speaker may not be installed on your Model 3. You can choose the option to add the 2 rear speakers (it will come with 2 OEM used speakers for you to add it back to the rear-shelf).

For car built after 2021-06 (China):
The rear-shelf speaker placeholder has been cancelled. You cannot add the rear-shelf speaker.

For Model 3 built after 2020-10-05 (USA) / 2020-12-28 (China):
You will need to tap 2 wires to enable the front right tweeter (the plug-and-play connector is removed). Contact our Tech Support for more details before you purchase.

What is “Subwoofer Output”?
It requires you to purchase your own amplifier and subwoofer. The option only provide 4 extra wires with signals that come from the front left and right door woofer.

Works pretty good, actually surprising well, although the video was not accurate with the location of the passenger side location for the tweeter wire.

The new revision version would be simple to install. SR+ owner should install! Strongly recommend!

I just finished installing this on my 2019 SR+ LHD. I purchased the harness in December 2020 so I have the latest revision which does not require routing a wire to the driver side. Everything is connected on just the passenger side, which makes things way easier. I allocated an hour for the install but it actually took me closer to 2-3 hours. It’s not technically difficult, but it requires a lot of dexterity and getting panels off and on can be really challenging. Here are some tips for would be buyers – the hardest part is getting the first connector, that goes into the MCU off. You have to push a button and pull but it’s really hard to get a firm enough grip. You don’t appreciate how small of a space and how awkward of an angle it is. It took me maybe 30 minutes (really) to get this connector out. What didn’t work: Using a tool in each hand – one to push the button and the other to lever the connector out. What worked – without looking, reach under the dash and push the button with one hand and grab the whole bundle of wires and pull. There is almost no space here. The next problem I had was the length of wire from the front area to the B-Pillar. You can think of the harness as three parts – MCU/Tweeter connector, B-Pillar, Rear Speakers. In the video, they make it seem like the B-Pillar to the rear is the one that is a tight connection. It is but the one that is really problematic is the front to B-Pillar. And because there’s a connection in the center, doesn’t make much of a difference if you create slack on one end or the other. This causes issues because you can’t neatly route the wires and in my case, I had some taut sections that were in danger of getting snagged in the clips for the trim pieces. Lastly, this might be just an issue with mine but when i removed the black B-Pillar trim, I knocked the seatbelt adjustment mechanism off its “rails”. Everything seemed fine but when I put it back together, I noticed the adjustment would bottom out higher than before. This is not something you’d notice unless you look at at the driver side or just “know” how far up and down the adjustment goes. This took me half a dozen tries of taking the whole B-Pillar apart and put back together again to solve. The assembly looks simple enough but as you can imagine, most people have never seen the inside of the assembly and it’s not obvious exactly how things should be working. Finally, in my first attempt, when I was done, I noticed that there was no audio on the right side whatsoever. No fronts, mids, rears, nothing. YI highly suggest testing this yourself by moving the balance left right, front back. I fixed it but just pushing on all the connectors. I didn’t even change or reconnect anything.

So was it worth it? Yes – even if you were used to the audio in your SR+ and it sounded fine before, having 6 additional speakers makes a huge difference. It’s almost doubling the amount and locations of where sound comes out. I didn’t think it would be that noticeable (and it’s not as noticeable as adding a subwoofer for example), but you can hear the effects immediately. My only wish was that the wires coming out of the B-Pillar connector were 2-3 inches longer. I think this would add almost nothing to the production cost and tucking in extra wire slack is much easier than trying to get a connector to reach.

Just bought this 10/2023 for my 2023 SR+ Left Hand Drive. Works 100% as advertised, installation video is for RHD but it works perfectly for LHD cars as well ( and it’s quite a bit easier for us). I installed it live (without disconnecting the battery) exactly as shown and it was fine. Took me about an hour as I was very cautious with pulling the connectors off (also great instructions on how to undo those, where the retaining pins are placed and how to release them). I installed Variant C and ran the sub wires and rear channel signals to the trunk for the Subwoofer install next weekend.

As an old guy I do have a decent amount of experience installing car stereos, but I can tell you pulling the panels off a tesla was a dream. The retaining pins are easily released, panels snap off and return with minimal stress and look perfect when reassembled. If you are worried about pulling the panels search Amazon for GOOACC 5 PCS Nylon Auto Trim Removal Tool $6

    Sound wise:
The original sound system was pretty decent, but it imaged very forward to me, exaggerating all the center signals to sound like they were mostly coming from the center dash. This install moved that sound stage right back to the driver and slightly high, which is perfect. Simulates front- row-center live positioning. Once I add in the subs and tune them to match the factory amp output (I’m not a basshead, but if the original source needs to shake your eyeballs, then it should) this will likely turn out to be the best sounding car I have ever owned.

Full thumbs up for this product and nicely done help video.

Very good product. Installed today and took about 2.5 hours for my 2023 RWD model 3 right hand drive.

We (RHD vehicles) get the short end of the stick in terms of installation difficulty for this kit. But all panels came off (some required quite a bit of force but if you are confident and pull a little firmer they will eventually budge)

Sound is really nice. I can now really shift the balance way further to the rear which helps with the bass as the rear door are more of a full range speaker. Really nice kit. Highly recommend. The video Raymond did for the variant C is pretty spot on.
